Wild Asparagus Wild Asparagus
Asparagus officinalis
Wild asparagus is found in the early spring when the young shoots are growing in abandoned lots, roadsides, and fencerows.  The best way to hunt them is in summer when the mature asparagus can easily be spotted.  The plants will have reddish berries in the late summer. Remember these places and return to them in the spring.

Asparagus in summer Wild Asparagus
Asparagus officinalis
Wild asparagus is easier to find in the summer than spring.  Keep an eye out for these green, somewhat bushy plants with their feathery appearance and remember their locations.  Return in the spring to find the young asparagus.

The wild asparagus plant will develop reddish berries in the late summer.  This makes identification even easier, though these plants are easy to spot without them.
