Gomphus floccosus
This mushroom is found during summer and autumn in mixed hardwood/conifers woods.  However, it prefers the conifers.  It is not a hard mushroom to identify and is either picked or avoided depending on the person.  A significant number of people (Avoiders) become quite ill eating this mushroom.  Gastrointestinal upsets occur about 8 - 14 hours after ingesting it.  These upsets include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Warning:  We suggest you avoid this mushroom if you do not know whether you are a picker or an avoider.  The resulting illness and misery finding out which group you fall in is not worth it if you turn out out be an avoider.
