Bear's Head Bear's Head
Hericium coralloides
Bear's Head is a choice mushroom that is found on old logs and stumps or the wounds of living trees, especially hardwoods like oak, maple, and hickory.  It is generally found from August through November.  It should be cooked slowly and not a lot eaten at once as it can be hard to digest.  It may also go by its Chinese name, Monkey Head. Below is a close up of its toothy structure.
